เมื่อพูดถึงจังหวัดที่เที่ยวได้ครบเครื่อง ทั้งเรื่องของประวัติศาสตร์ ภูเขา ทะเลหมอก ล่องแพ แล้วแน่นอน จังหวัดนี้มีน้ำตกที่สวยและขึ้นชื่ออีกมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็น น้ำตกเอราวัณ น้ำตกไทรโยคน้อย น้ำตกไทรโยคใหญ่ หรือน้ำตกที่จะกล่าวถึงในวันนี้ซึ่งก็คือ น้ำตกห้วยแม่ขมิ้น แห่งจังหวัดกาญจนบุรีนั่นแอง น้ำตกห้วยแม่ขมิ้น อยู่ในพื้นที่อุทยานแห่งชาติเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ เป็นน้ำตกที่ไหลมาลำห้วยแม่ขมิ้น ที่อยู่ในป่าดิบแล้งบริเวณเทือกเขากะลา ที่เป็นป่าดิบเขาแล้งทางตะวันออกของอุทยานแห่งชาติเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ และไหลลงมาสู่อ่างเก็บน้ำเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ โดยไหลผ่านเทือกเขาหินปูนลดหลั่นกันลงมา ถึง 7 ชั้นด้วยกัน แต่ละชั้นจึงมีความสวยงามที่ต่างกันออกไป ทำให้ที่แห่งนี้ ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นน้ำตกที่สวยที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในจังหวัดกาญจนบุรี น้ำตกจะมีชื่อเรียกแตกต่างกันไป เริ่มจากชั้นที่ 1 ดงว่าน ม่านขมิ้น วังหน้าผา ฉัตรแก้ว ไหลจนหลง ดงผีเสื้อ ร่มเกล้า ตามลำดับ ซึ่งแต่ละชั้นจะมีความสูงตั้งแต่ชั้นแรกถึงชั้น 4 แค่ 300-750 เมตรเท่านั้น แต่ชั้น 5 ขึ้นไปจนถึงชั้นบนสุดของน้ำตก จะมีระยะทางมากกว่า 1 กิโลเมตร ก่อนจะไหลลงไปสู่อ่างเก็บน้ำเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ เมื่อมาถึงบริเวณที่จอดรถ จะอยู่ใกล้บริเวณทางเข้าของน้ำตกชั้นที่ 4 หรือที่ชื่อ ฉัตรแก้ว ซึ่งเป็นชั้นที่สวยที่สุดอีกด้วย และจะมีบริเวณกางเต็นท์ให้สำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวที่บริเวณนี้ด้วย แต่เต็นท์จะไม่สามารถกางนอนได้ทุกชั้น จะมีแค่ที่น้ำตกชั้น1 ดงว่าน และชั้น4 ฉัตรแก้ว เท่านั้น โดยบริเวณกางเต็นท์ ชั้น 1 จะอยู่ติดกับ น้ำตก สามารถนอนฟังเสียงน้ำตกเพลินๆ สงบ ร่มรื่น ส่วนบริเวณกางเต็นท์ที่ชั้น 4 นั้นจะสามารถมองเห็นวิวภูเขารวมถึงวิวพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นและตก ได้อย่างสวยงาม

นอกจากนี้ ทางอุทยานยังทำเส้นทางเดินศึกษาธรรมชาติให้กับผู้ที่สนใจ ซึ่งต้องติดต่อเจ้าหน้าที่ก่อนเดินทาง ก็จะมีเส้นที่น่าสนใจ เช่น เดินผ่านป่าไผ่ ป่าเบญจพรรณ ป่าปรง ดงดอกกระเจียว และมีจุดชมทิวทัศน์ทะเลสาบเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ ระยะทาง 3.5 กิโลเมตร ใช้เวลาประมาณ1ชั่วโมงครึ่ง และอีกเส้นหนึ่งสำหรับคนไม่อยากเดินทางไกล คือ เส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติผ่านผาเว้า หน้าผาสูง 20 เมตร ป่าปรง และป่าไผ่ ไปจนถึงไหลจนหลงซึ่งเป็นน้ำตกชั้นที่ 5 ของอุทยาน ระยะทาง 800 เมตร ใช้เวลา 1 ชม. เป็นเส้นทางที่สั้นที่สุด น้ำตกห้วยแม่ขมิ้นนั้น สามารถเที่ยวได้ตลอดทั้งปี แต่ช่วงเวลาที่แนะนำ จะเป็นช่วงเดือนตุลาคม ถึงเมษายน ที่น้ำจะไม่ขุ่นมาก เพราะฝนไม่ตกจนเกินไป เพราะในช่วงฤดูฝนของที่นี่ น้ำตกจะมีสีขุ่น แต่ถึงแม้ว่าจะขุ่นแต่น้ำตกที่ไหลลงมาแต่ละชั้นก็ยังใส และสวยงามมาก การได้มาเที่ยวน้ำตก อยู่กับธรรมชาติ ก็ช่วยเราบำบัดทั้งร่างกายและจิตใจไปในตัวด้วย เมื่อก่อน ถ้าจะไปเที่ยวน้ำตกห้วยแม่ขมิ้น จะค่อนข้างลำบากต้องผ่านถนนดินลูกรัง ลงแพขนานยนต์ถึง 2 ต่อและขับรถต่อไปอีก 7 กิโลเมตร กว่าจะไปถึง น้ำตก ทำให้นักท่องเที่ยวยังไม่ค่อยเดินทางไปมากนัก แต่ตอนนี้การเดินทางไป น้ำตกห้วยแม่ขมิ้น นั้นสะดวกมากขึ้นมากเพราะมีถนนลาดยาวไปถึงตัวน้ำตกซึ่งน้ำตกแห่งนี้เปิดให้เข้าชมตั้งแต่ 8โมงเช้าถึง 5 โมงเย็น มีค่าเข้าชมผู้ใหญ่ 100 บาท เด็ก 50 บาท ชาวต่างชาติ 300 และ 200 บาท ถือได้ว่าเป็นอีกสถานที่ใกล้กรุงเทพมหานครที่น่ามาลองสัมผัสสูดอากาศธรรมชาติอีกที่หนึ่งเลยจริงๆ
