Museum of Mahasarakham University was established on 1 June 1999, with the aim to communicate the identity of Mahasarakham university from the beginning to the development of meaningful, and significant along with the development of society. Since the education college of Mahasarakham (1968) until Srinakharinwirot Mahasarakham University (1974) and Mahasarakham University (in 1994). The University also serves as a center for museum knowledge development, and support social benefits, both in terms of raising awareness of the value and importance of the local, and museum managing to be a knowledge learning resource responding the needs of society.

The University museum's philosophy is “Cultivate realization value to enhance the development recognition”.

Vision of Museum of Mahasarakham University is to be a learning resource center to raise awareness of the identity value and create museum knowledge for Social Development. Its missions are as follows;

1. Communicate the identity of Mahasarakham university from the beginning to the development of meaningful and significant along with the development of society.
2. Be a center for museum knowledge development, and support social benefits, both in terms of raising awareness of the value and importance of the local, and managing the museum to be an efficient learning resource.

3. Support studying management and research in various related disciplines, such as history, anthropology, and museology.

4.  Use as a recreation area and activities’ place for student, university unit, and general public.

Objectives of Museum of Mahasarakham University are,

 1. Exhibits the development story of Mahasarakham University, which beginning, on going, and changing, with meaningful and important along with the developing of society.

2. To be the learning resource and educational support on museology for society, particularly knowledge involved with museum administration that  benefits to the local .

3. To support studying management and research in various related disciplines, such as history, anthropology, and museology. 

4. To use as a recreation area and activities’ place for student, university unit, and general public.
