Thaiyuanlaplae Museum is a learning center which passes on the folk wisdom of weaving Thai-Yuan Teen Jok cloth to later generations. This helps promote and upgrade tourism in Laplae district to be a tourism center. The museum began when “Teacher Jo”, born in a Thai-Yuan family in which every female in each generation has to weave cloth generation by generation, was inspired by his mother. Even though Lublae people forbid men from weaving, his love for the beauty of Teen Jok cloth was so strong that he secretly tried to remember everything about weaving and emulate the techniques. Later, he gathered locals from Ban Nakum and Ban Na Talae into a weaving group and established the Thaiyuanlaplae Museum to publish folk wisdom and way of life of Lublae women through Teen Jok cloth. The cloth is intricately-woven, infused with the attitudes, beliefs and imagination through ancient design and patterns. It also receives 5-star OTOP prize and is presented before Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn every year. The museum exhibits over 100-year-old antique cloth and tribal clothing adapted to the modern age. The space under the museum situates a loom which has no heddle. This way, the weaver needs both skills and expertise in remembering patterns illustrating Lublae people’s identity. This local tradition has helped bring income into over 100 households in the local community.
