When talking about the viewpoints for appreciating the sea of mist in Chiang Rai, most people usually think of cold weather on high hills where Mae Ka ning, or Hoarfrost, exists and morning mist hovers, or choose Phu Chee Fah as their destination, But here, I heartily recommend you a new place, which I can promise that it is as impressive as Phu Chee Fah.

         Doi Sa Ngo is in Sa Ngo village, situated in Chiang San district, Chiang Rai province. Sa Ngo village is part of the Huai Sango Royal Project. In the village, live two tribes of Akha and Thai Lue which certainly contribute to develop unique cultures, beliefs and ways of life. The village, therefore, attracts many tourists to explore the cultures while appreciating cold weather on the high hill. The tourists who are planning to visit this village can drive their private cars and park them at the parking lot before getting in “E-Tan”, a big farm truck which will be waiting near the lot to take the tourists to the viewpoint. There are many places to stay overnight on the hill. Now, I am going to tell you about my travel experience on Doi Sa Ngo. I traveled to Doi Sa Ngo by E-tan truck, as described above. Around 7am, the sun already rose and shone. I thought I came too late to see the mist, but half an hour later, the mist rose from the lower part of the hill and gradually hovered around the viewpoint of Doi Sango, making everything white. The tourists there were so excited and fascinated by the sea of mist and all said it was worth the climb to see such a spectacular view.

         The mist had faded away, but the cold air still lingered. I noticed a cute and intelligent dog which was sleeping by a camp fire to keep its body warm. After asking a local female vendor nearby about the dog, I realized the female vendor is its owner. Every day, the dog follows the vendor from the village and waits for her to open the stall. It is admired by all tourists visiting Doi Sa Ngo, and its intelligence always makes people smile.

         During the walk on the viewpoint, there are tribal swings which were built for the tourists to learn the traditional play of the hill tribes and wooden car toys for them to try playing.

         While walking down to the parking site, I was chatting with many people all the way: the locals who were walking down the hill as well and the vendors who sold foods in the village, and the residents who lived nearby. Their friendliness made me feel comfortable and relaxed.  This trip has been the most impressive one ever, so I would like to recommend those who want to enjoy the sea of mist closely to visit this place. You won’t regret going there, I assure.
