Traveling treasuresa solo exhibition byPatipat Chaiwitesh*(เลื่อนลงด้านล่างสำหรับภาษาไทย Scroll down for Thai version)*- During 27 Jun - 9 Aug 2020 at S.A.C. Subhashok The Arts Centre - The opening reception: 27 June 2020, 1:00-7:00 PM ________Patipat Chaiwitesh is a designer and an artist who expand the definition of weaving. Chaiwitesh is interested in combining different materials together because of his grave concerns on the environment. Chaiwitesh based his artistic practices on the design philosophy which highlights the concept of 'changes' within the area of cultural ceremony. The "Traveling treasure" exhibition explores the idea between our familiarity with these objects and the alternate version of those within the Chinese, Taiwanese burning cultures.As a residencery artist, at Bamboo Curtain Studio which is allocated in Taiwan in 2019, Chaiwitesh is interested in the use of fire as a means to communicate culture as a form of ceremony. And so, fire becomes a medium that is used in order to send our artifical treasures to the deceased, "Traveling treasure" is where ideas, experiments, and know-how are being displayed as art forms for communicating, healing, memories, and spirits.Chaiwitesh challenges the notion of this objects originating from East Asian cultures and changes this seeminly irreplaceable silver and gold paper objects to become something that is more sustainable. Right now, the world revolves around the ideas of sustainability, protecting the environment, climage change and combating pollution. The question that is posed is how do we find a way to still practice our cultural practices sustainably? Chaiwitesh raises this question through the exploration on alternative materials including scrap materials. He compares these long-lasting materials to the fragility of human minds. He compromises the burning culture to a more sustain future.
