SAC Gallery is pleased to invite you to attend “Apollo and Daphne”, the solo exhibition by Gi-ok Jeon. The series of works genuinely invites audiences to an artistic journey along with abstract art, illustrating, and an artistic dialogue of two aesthetics on the surface of her contemporary art.
“Apollo and Daphne” is also the second exhibition with SAC Gallery. Jeon has graduated in fine arts from Seoul with her bachelor’s degree and renowned Beijing Central Academy of Fine Arts for her master’s degree. She moved to Bangkok to study art print techniques at the Visual Arts department, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Through her artistic journey along with her life, she is able to depict a colorful atmosphere in her work. Jeon’s works combine the dominant identity of western art with trails of eastern touch, also influenced by ancient Chinese calligraphy techniques.
Jeon’s abstract painting represent both western and eastern aspects, combining two different aesthetic legacies to a new art territory. Stones, Plastic bottles, or even Chinese black olives, as found object feature with traditional Chinese calligraphy technique, give a modern approach to the European & American abstract arts. At the same time, the Chinese brush art also reflects the artist identities: the root of her origin, and the movement in her life. The paintings are here seen as the artist’s second world, overlapping territorially with her real-life events.
“Apollo and Daphne” – a solo exhibition by Gi-ok Jeon will be open from 25 February to 21 May 2022. Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday between 10:00 – 18:00 (The gallery is closed on Mondays, Sundays, and Public Holidays). Opening Reception will be held on 25 February 2022, 18:00.
