On 4 July 2019, the National Museum (NM) of the Philippines, in partnership with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda (OSLL) and the National Discovery Museum Institute (NMDI), will be launching the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition featuring Piña-Seda: Pineapple and Silk Cloths from the Tropics at Museum Siam in Bangkok, Thailand. The exhibition highlights piña as a traditional and unique source of fiber in the Philippines, demonstrating the intricate features of the Filipino textile weaving and hand-embroidery heritage.

Corollary to the exhibition are lecture series, piña fiber scraping and weaving demonstrations and embroidery workshops, which will be facilitated by Ms. Raquel Eliserio and Mr. Carlo Eliserio, expert piña-seda weavers from Balete, Aklan and Mr. Loreto Maestre, Jr. and Ms. Lolita Pereza, expert hand-embroiderers from Lumban, Laguna from 05 to 10 July 2019. The lecturers from the National Museum will be led by Dr. Ana P. Labrador, Assistant Director and the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Program Head.

Bangkok is the second destination of the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition in Asia, Europe and Americas for 2019. The first travelling exhibition was held at the Philippine Embassy in London in October 2017. Through partnerships with Philippine Service Posts and partner institutions abroad, the travelling exhibition was brought to six destinations in 2018: Lisbon, Madrid, Washington D.C., New York, Honolulu, and Frankfurt. This year, the project continues, first of which was successfully launched at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. As the premier cultural institution in the Philippines, the National Museum aims to establish linkages and promote Filipino culture to a global audience of heritage professionals, textile enthusiasts and researchers, and to the Filipino community members abroad.

The Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition will run from 5 to 27 July 2019 at the Multipurpose Building, Museum Siam, 4 Sanam Chai Road, Khwaeng Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Khet Phra Nakhon, Bangkok, Thailand. The lectures, weaving demonstrations and embroidery workshops are free.
